Fan and lights in bathroom fitted by sparkey - shared switch. Fan should have a delay of 5 minutes after switching it off... But it doesn't... sparkey just shrugged his shoulders.. posting.php?mode=post&f=3#

(the fan was already in place, had the light fittings replaced and a new switch installed)

the one in my ensuite works just fine - same sparkey.....

But the wires he used were different ..

The one that has the problem -- the switch has only red and black wires!!! (ignoring the earths)

one red wire into the com connection two red wires into the L1 connections. All 3 black wires are connected together.posting.php?mode=post&f=3#

Help - what needs to be changed in order to get the delay working again??

(the one that works a four core cable was used)

Ages ago I made this diagram.

I have tried to show that the fan connection is taken from the ceiling rose not the switch. So it will have Switched Line, Permanent Line, Neutral and Earth connections.

I seem to remember run on where required by building regulations is 15 minutes not 5? Fan required if there is no opening window. However if there is natural light then using the light switch as only way to switch on will not comply. Normal is to have a pneumatic switch to start fan these have a time delay off.
