Only just noticed the bath filler, no more bruised legs whilst having a shower

Thats quality looking work there sir.

What do you use to get such a neat silicone bead?

I use a fugi kit myself but always struggle coming off the bath to go up the wall. Its right in the corner I find fiddly, any tips?!! How do you go behind taps?

Also do you use different coloured silicone to match the colour of the tiles?

Right no more silicone questions I promise!!

I also use the fugi kit.....the yellow ones that come in a box of four. You can also make little sticks to use and that is how the proper mastic/silicone tradesmen do it. Good way to get behind taps too. Other than that it is to buy two fugi kits and cut the formers down from one of the kits.

You don't do around the bath and then go up the wall, that may be why you are struggling. Do all the internal corners first, top to bottom or bottom to top. I go top to bottom as it is easier to work down than up. Once you have the vertical beads done, then you can do around the bath and I am sure doing it this way you will find it easier.

I always use a silicone suitable to the tile/grout colour. I normally use the coloured silicone around the top of the bath too. However in these pics the plumber did the silicone work to the bath area when he installed the shower screen, as I had to go to another job for the day. Like a nob, he put white silicone along the top of the bath, where as, I would have preferred jasmin to have been used.

Another good method is to get a silicone bloke in. The one I used to use, would charge £40 to do that bathroom including materials.

Brilliant cheers for that. I didnt realise you could get someone to do it for you. I was once in a hotel with my wife and after checking out the bathroom I came out to tell her how neat the silicone was. Its a bit sad but I love to see good craftsmanship, even the silicone.

I think you have to have pride because that is what brings the next job in. Even if you sub contract the same applies because it keeps you on their books and brings in the work for them and in turn brings you more in.

I dare say I am the same as every other craftsmen in as much that there have been times in my career when the standard has been to slap it in and get out. A lot of companies are like that and don't factor time into jobs for any pride or care. I used to hate working that way but thankfully as I got older the time came when I could give firms like that a wide birth.
