Hello all,

Not sure if i should post this here or the tiling section. Anyway i am installing a back to wall free standing bath. I'm not sure if i have to install bath then tile or tile wall then fit bath.

I know the ideal way is to fir bath then tile for better water seal, but it has a plastic bath surrounding so if i fit bath then tile it will mean the surrounding will be about 15mm to big and stick out on the front.

Hope this makes sense.

Thats the thing, it is fitted to the back wall but both sides and front are free. Its not a completley free stadning bath. If i tile then fit bath i will have to put a strip of silicone along the back edge where it meets the tile. I was trying to stay await from this.

I'm scared to ask questions after my earlier lambasting, but any chance of a pic?

I've got the same sort of thing as you - kindof free standing, but the back is against a wall. I'm just going to wang a bead of sillycones across the back to seal it.

hmmm, I'd be torn between tiling then installing bath with a silcon bead vs installing bath and tiling round and using a sealing strip - both have plus and negative points.

Are you definetly tiling?

How about a nice plastered wall, painted and a single strip of tiles across the top of the bath as a splashback arrangement?

Sorry to add, looked at some install pics and can only find them as Scruff says - tile then do bath after. He knows his stuff and I can't find any pics where people have done otherwise!

Can't go wrong then......

Have a look at these, from Mr UHM himself:

About 10 quids, but should leave you with a line Daniella Westbrooke herself would be proud of.....

Tiling first will avoid having to make the difficult cuts to follow the slope of the bath up from the floor.

It'll be a lot easier to get the silicone neat than to do those cuts well!
