Hi,

I have a basement flat which is underneath a tenemant building, to access the flat u go throught the building and into the back garden and into the flat my front door goes into my livingroom and that front wall is brick and feels wet and damp inside, I have been told this can be treated with a seal that can be panted onto the outside of the brick which is fine. The biggest problem i have is on the bathroom and kitchen walls and on the other side of these walls is the undrside of the street and the inside of these walls are damp and wet. How doi treat this and stop the damp? There is an extractor fan in the bathroom and kitchen ad the walls are plastered, i dont know if the walls stud then plasterboard or just plastered brickwork. Any advice?

Thanks

heeelllooo and welcome AF1983 :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

i assume you are in scotland

if its just the odd damp patch then sealing can cure it

if its very wet its a bit more complicated if you want to do the job properly
its called tanking like a swimming pool in reverse
you use a membrane to hold the water back with drainage /pump as required to clear the water

Hi

Thanks for your reply. the damp is all over the walls from top to bottom and there are tiny little white bugs crawling on the walls. I presume that tanking is the only option? and would i be right in saying that all the plaster and kitchen units would have to come off the walls for this to be done? I was told that the brick wall at the front can be treated with a paint on seal as this wall is also damp from top to bottom and there is no render on the outside of this wall.

Thanks
