Looks like we should be able to get our charges back!

I understand that you should be charged a fee if you break the guidelines of your account, but £35 a time is taking the p*ss bigtime.

£35 is taking the p*ss?

In which case, surely £60 for going over 5mins at a council carpark that charges 50p per hr is just as bad?

I'm with the Handyman on this one.

This country is full of pathetic little rules & regulations and public bodies who impose these charges so they think they can demonstate what value for money they provide :angryfire:

But when it comes to bank charges, people know the bank charges when they open the account so it is a bit late to moan after the event.

Take out an overdraft facility even if you have no indent to go overdrawn, then IF if you do go into the red accidently, no problems

Just got my bank charges though for the last quater - £380!!!!!!!! Thieving b@stards, and all because a lot of direct debits bounced, ok my fault to a degree, in fact my customers fault for not paying on time. So called them had a moan and asked them to re-think basically told me to bugger off, so just moved it this afternoon to another bank, that at least for the run of the mill banking is free, as £60 of the above bill was for cheques, banking cheques cash point and direct debits!

I bet I will get a call from my so-called business manager in the week when they get the request through from the other bank for my account info.

I've not a problem with charges, but £35 is just robbery, it would make no difference if you were £1 or £1000 overdrawn.
Why don't they have a slideing scale of charges, say a £1 per day, they would still make a very hansom amount from that, plus the interest they keep from useing 'our' money.....WITHOUT our permission.

Personally, it's high time that these institutions got a good kick up the cash register.

As Tel's posted, customers that pay late, you caint charge them £35 per letter to ask for it, the banks have been in the position of haveing it's cake and eating it for far too long.
The banks answer to us, the share holder, so just what is there problem, or do the share holders get theire charges back in the dividend.

Fair is fair, and not just in one direction................theres. :angryfire: :angryfire:

Maybe you self-employed guys should add 5% to the quote and then offer a 5% discount to a customer if they settle up within 48 hours of completion?

Personally, I know a lot of sole traders can't afford to be stiffed for their money and pay on the dot soon as job completed to the spec - not fair not too

What will happen now though is that the days of the free bank account is about to disappear

Normally they pay as job finishes, however they then said they were going away on a family emergency for a day or two and would be back before I was finished - two weeks after I finished it they returned and paid. Not a good situation all round but hey ho these things happen!
