I'm replacing a bath and basin in my G/F bathroom which has a concrete floor. The existing bath/basin drain into a salt glaze hopper sunk into the floor (The hopper is sitting on a salt glazed U trap as far as I can tell - badly drawn diagram attached)

I would like to use this drain but I would like to seal the new plastic pipes to the hopper in some way but so far I haven't found any fittings that would help.

The Plumber I consulted (A good Guy I trust) suggested digging up the floor which worries me as if the glazed pipe is damaged we could end up having to relay the whole run under the kitchen.

Any help really appreaciated!

Get a 110mm internal reducer, and a branch to take both pipes.

Air does need to get into the large saltglaze trap in the floor, or it'll 'pull' the basin & bath trap.
Golden rule; air behind water.

Thanks for that - Something I hadn't thought of - so sealing it would be a bad idea!

Not sealing would be an even badder idea
