Hi guys
It's completely fine and functioning well other than it has flaky paint but my soul pipe is definitely asbestos.
It's a bungalow and therefore ground floor soil pipe only 3 foot high.
I am considering if it is worth replacing for upvc as you walk past it to get to my door and it's ugly.

My question is not the dangers of asbestos but what usually happens under ground. The soil pipe base is set into a large piece of concrete under the block paving and my drain is a sealed unit set into a concrete floor under the extension so is the pipework underground usually also astbestos and can it be joined to upvc as obviously I don't want to replace all the underground pipe work as that is under my house

Cheers

My suggestion would be to involve a little bit of effort, digging and chipping away at the concrete.....

until you can expose (carefully, if not carefully you will have to keep going until you do.....) about 3" / 75mm of undamaged underground pipe and then fit one of these:

https://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-underground-flexible-adaptor-110mm/19914

The small end will clamp up to the existing pipe and the larger end will enable you to remake the stack above ground in plastic, then you can bury the adaptor under the paving.

It may not be as simple as that though, you need to get from there to the back if the wc, post some pictures please. Otherwise why not just repaint it?

The type of cementitious asbestos used for soil pipe is not inherently dangerous, but everybody is scared of the A word due to the fibrous stuff formerly used as insulation, which is harmful to health with prolonged exposure. If in doubt, leave it alone.
