I have just bee offered a job to sort out an Artexed living room ceiling..

The artex is blown in places and simply falls off when pulled, my mate wanted it overskimmed but i explained that i wasn't confident the existing artex would hold new skim and i suggested overboarding, which they agreed with.

However i have been mulling it over and figured that as the artex is so loose it would probably scrape off entirely easily enough, exposing what i hope would be the existing plaster boards.

I reckon if i went with the scrape it off option the old boards would need a good coat of bonding agent before skim.

Am i right in thinking that overboarding is the way ahead, staggered joints, skrim tape and skim the lot?? Or would anyone go with the scrape the lot off approach??

My mate isn't up for pulling the whole cieling down as the house is only 20years old and in decent nick.

Scrape off and see what's there I'd have thought..
