Hi all
I have a horrible artex ceiling thats about 6mm deep maximum
i was gonna board this out and put a skim coat on
i have a couple of questions:
what size board do i use?
do i just find the joists and screw the boards up?
am i mad to do this myself?
i've fitted my own bathroom and done a few tiling jobs myself with great results so i'd really like to have a go at doing my ceiling
its about 28 square metres
many thanks

The larger the boards you use the less joints afterwards.
8' * 4' boards will make it quicker, but you need two people really. It is extremely hard on your own.
You can get long bugle headed dry wall screws to hold the sheets up, you need to find the joist centres and then mark the joist centres on the wall, so that you know where to put the screws.
It's not an easy job, especially the plastering.
I'd ask for a few quotes first as it may not work out much more expensive to let the pro's do it _________________ DIY | DIY Video |

Certainly agree with you there. I've just done some ceiling with 1800x900 boards and they are a lot easier to handle and install on your own.

| Yes, knock the bobbles off the artex, or just the really high ones, PVA then plaster with 2 coats, first coat will go on a little rough but your second coat will do the job. |
