This is what we've got:-

Double switch downstairs which operates the downstairs hall and upstairs landing light. Then a single upstairs landing switch.

The down stairs switch has the following wires

2x red
1x blue
1x yellow
1x black

At present the following is making the downstairs hall light work

1x red (in COM)
1x black (in 1Way)
This hall light is turning on and off.

I can't however get the downstairs second switch to turn the upstairs light on and off. The remaining wires are:-
1x red
1x blue
1x yellow

Where should they go??? Is the downstairs one even right or is it just a fluke that its working.

The upstairs single light switch is making the upstairs landing light turn on and off. It has the following wires:-

2x red
1x yellow
1x blue
1x black

The black is in 1Way
Red and Blue in COM's
Red and Yellow in 2Way

Is this correct???

If anyone can tell me why its not working and how to fix it I'd be really really grateful. Desperately trying to get it done so that the decorator can finish the walls around the switches with filler and paint tomorrow before he finishes (he won't touch the lights)

If you click on the A-Z contents under electrical, lights. or whatever most points are covered with diagrams.

If you don't understand them, it really is time to a get a sparky in.

The link I posted is that simple, a thousand words will not make it easier.

The sparkies come on when they can the same as all of us, when they do they can help a bit more.

Hi Laurahil this is what to do

I can't however get the downstairs second switch to turn the upstairs light on and off. The remaining wires are:-
1x red
1x blue
1x yellow

COM. red
L1. Yellow or blue
L2. Blue or yellow

The upstairs single light switch is making the upstairs landing light turn on and off. It has the following wires:-

2x red
1x yellow
1x blue
1x black

The black is in 1Way
Red and Blue in COM's
Red and Yellow in 2Way

Is this correct???

No it isn't correct. Then make sure it is connected.

COM. Red
L1. Yellow or blue Plus black
L2. Blue or yellow. Plus red. Make sure it is the red that is with the black wire and not the one with the yellow and blue. Get these mixed up the light won't work!

Hope this helps :thumbright:

You are fantastic!!!!! I'm alive and its working!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wooohooo

Seriously, we've not even been married a year and at this rate we won't even get a chance to divorce through DIY as he'll have killed me first!!!!

First shock, changing plug sockets yesterday. I turn off all power, Mark my husband (nic name Sparky  ) decided he needed the sockets on but didn't tell me. I went flying.

Today - not sure who is more stupid, him for doing it again or me for thinking he wouldn't do it again. We're going light switches today. I tell him to turn the power off, he says OK, I go to do the light switch, bang I go again!!

You really actually could have saved my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd kiss you if you were here now  xx
