We are in the process of having a new kitchen installed.

The old kitchen had a free standing gas cooker with a 13a plug on the ring main. We have replaced this with 2 electric fitted ovens (3.68 and 3.1kw = 6.78 total power) and a seperate gas hob with electric ignition.

1)The fitting company plan to use an exsisting 6mm t&e that used to supply a shower in the bathroom next door and the exsisting 45amp MCB. Is this okay?

2)They plan to instal the switch in the cupboard above the top oven, as 17th edition says the switch should not be directly above the oven will this be okay?

3)Do the 2 ovens need sepearate switches?

4)They plan to run the hob from a fused spur from the ring main. This okay isn't it?

The ring main is actually supplied by another 6mm T&E from the CU and then split, it runs from a 32a MCB.

I was happy they would do it correctly until the guy who fitted the furniture said he was going to chase out fresh plaster to connect the extractor, verticly and then horizontally with a buried elbow - mmmmmm

He then fitted the extractor, connecting the cable to a length of 1mm T&E using a terminal block wrapped in insulation tape hidden in the chimley of the extractor and chissled out a bit of the fresh plaster to feed this out around the chimley despite knowing that I was going to run it through the ceiling space above!

Thanks in advance.

Not really-

Sorry if we can't ba around all the time to answer your questions!

1) The 45 amp mcb is too high.
2) I don't think they can install the switch in a cupboard, it has to be easily accessible.
3) Don't know
4) Yes, as long as it is connected to a fused connection unit and the correct fuse is used (probably 3amp)

Thanks :-) Sorry, as several of the regular sparkies had been on answering other questions I assumed they had agreed with what I had asked.

What size MCB should the oven circuit have?
