It's a damn shame that the owners race them and then get rid of them when they can no longer race
People who treat animals like that should be terminated

put 'greyhound cruelty' or similar into you tube, and you'll never go to the races again (well, not until they regulate the industry)

Are greyhounds usually nast towards other dogs? We have about 6 near us and they go mental when they see my dog.

normally not, as its been bread out. The reason being that if the dogs are violent to the other greyhounds at the end of the race, they get a yellow card.......once more, and they are out. Most of the owners dont want that.
They are only used to greyhounds, and no other dogs. Casper took 2 weeks of training, and he now is perfect with even the small fluffy dogs.
Scottie is only 2 days in, and will hopefully be fine.
Its all down to training them, which is normally only a few weeks, compaired to months of work if you got any type of puppy

Is it safe to let one off the lead? I'm assuming that the chasing anything small (like a rabbit) instinct is still pretty strong.

6 months of training with a long lead and casper can be off the lead in the field. Doesnt chase dogs (no matter how small) but will chase rabbits............a lot of dogs do.
2 others in the walking field have jack russells who cant let them off the lead, as they chase the rabbits, but continue through the hedges onto the railway track
Most breads of dog have some sort of thing that needs sorted out

Do you get many bitches that need re-homing, the ones I've seen all tend to be dogs?

yes, you get females.
You just phone one of the charities and say what you want. The easiest is if they have one that has had a month or so in foster care, this way it will be toilet trained, should now walk to heal, and sleep all night.
The dog will not be attached to its foster carer as soon as this, but you will get the benifits as above

When my daughters and I had a retired greyhound we were told if you let them off the lead and they run off, just run in the opposite direction and they will chase you. Certainly worked with our one

I want a female beagle next, I love the hunting hound facial markings and I have a little Parson Russell terrier already.
