The other day I took the SD card out of the camcorder put it into the dedicated SD card reader slot on the pc and............nothing. Tried several SD cards nothing, pc has not been moved, so it looks like the SD card reader slot has given up the ghost. ::b

(No, my laptop doesn't have a card reader)

Look at ebay I now have a USB stick / SD card reader on the way (for £3.50) :-)

Have you ever had something give up / fail and you ended up getting a new one from ebay for only "pennies"

Common fault with some SD readers, delete the drivers and reinstall them, I had similar issues with my dash cam SD card after upgrading to Windows 10.

Goodluck

Thanks for that :-) but I am loathed to delete anything incase I press the wrong button, (years ago I had no problem formatting the HD and re installing everything, but that was then.....) I am also waiting for my usb card reader to arrive, although I will ask the pc to update its drivers.

Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 had serious issues with SD card readers for some reason. It's an extremely common issue. I'm an IT consultant and had this issue on 3 of my computers/laptops Your sd cards I assume work on your cam still and show the pics but your pc can't.

Small electronics items (such as a portable SD card reader) are so ridiculously cheap nowadays that you can only wonder at how they do it. I purchase all sorts of small electronics from China (where 90%+ of all electronics emanates anyway) and they can deliver it to my door cheaper than I can buy two or three of them here in the UK.

I've been charged more in 'unpaid postage' (by the Royal Mail) for a 50g package sent to me from a UK address than I pay for 500g of electronics bits and pieces sent from China! Crazy!

Be careful when buying with China, I found a few SD cards were showing 64gb but were actually on 32gb

I use this site for my new "imported" SD cards to ensure I get what I paid for

I don't purchase memory from China - I would if it was from one of my 'regular' suppliers that wouldn't dare take the risk to cheat me though!

They aren't all out to scam you either. I purchased some soldering iron bits (temperature controlled) from one supplier who sent me 5 off the same shaped bits when I should have had 5 different shapes (different shapes for different soldering tasks). After I complained they sent me 5 replacements, free of charge, of identical but much higher quality versions that I know must have lost them money!

I deliberately paid for the after-market stuff which was cheaper than the OEM but they sent me the OEM stuff replacements that were 3x the price.

This was entirely because I am known for making feedback on ALL purchases - and I don't beat about the bush with my reviews!

I too have heard about undersized memory sticks, but I will wait until my new reader arrives, they can't be making money on it though.
