Hi

Just had a building company fitting a new kitchen. Their quote included nearly 600 quid itemised for plumbing. I went to turn off the tap, and found the whole base of it is twisting around. The actual tap is supposed to swivel, but not the base as well! Looking underneath, the tap is connected with some pushfits and plastic bendy pipes - I can't actually see anything attaching the tap firmly in place. It also seems really flimsy - there is nothign supporting the metal of the sink where it attaches, so one good wrench and you could twist the whole thing off. According to the fitter, it's the quality of the tap and the sink, and he 'can't work miracles'.

There's a few things that bother me

1. Is it normal to be using push fit for this? Is push fit sturdy enough? They charged me 600 quid for plumbing, but it looks like the plumber only fitted the gas bayonet (pipe was already in place) and maybe ran the cold and hot feeds round to the sink. He was there for a morning. The rest of the draining and tap was done by the fitter not the plumber.

2. Is it true about the sink (Howdens) - the guy said they are really flimsy and it's my fault for not getting a stronger one. The 'v' shape at the back of the sink where the tap goes in seems to have nothing supporting it, and if you rotate the tap (the bit which is supposed to rotate I mean) then it feels like you could easily just bend the whole thing over and buckle the sink metal.

Am I just being too picky? I would appreciate a view from someone who knows about this stuff. Thanks

Agreed a pic looking up would be good.

The plumber is obviously a 10week CC without a clue.

And I'll move the post to plumbing any minute.
