When I moved into my home 2 years ago the 4 doors to the upstairs rooms were all fitted with the orignal metal door latches. However, the mechanism on 1 of them wasnt working so I opened the latch up and found that the mechanism spring was snapped. I dont know much about metal working, but I pressume that the spring is made from sprung steel.

I have been looking for a replacement spring or door latch on and off since I moved into the house with no luck, but my wife is really on at me to get it sorted now. As the doors have been carved to fit the door latch I dont really have the option of fitting another lock - plus I'd like them all to match.

So does anyone know where I could send the broken latch and have them make me a replica?

Or is there is possibility that the damaage one could be fixed?

Photograph is attached for refernce. Sorry the photo quality isnt great, but you should get the idea.

Looks like a standard lock spring, have you tried a locksmith.

Haha. Now I feel stupid - didnt realise that it was a standard spring. The ones on the link are very similar to the one I have. My spring appears to be tighter in terms of the size of the opening and it also has a little kink back inwards at one end. However, I think that the ones on the link should work fine, although the mechanism may be a little stiffer. I'll certainly give them a try anyway.

Thanks for your help guys.

Sssssshhhhhh - Dont tell the wife that I could have sorted this out 2 years ago for a few pounds.

I would send your spring to them as they would probably match one up or alter one to suit for a reasonable cost. :thumbright:
