I have a sink to be fitted in utility room, and was wondering how easy is it to cut out the work top for the sink to fit in :dunno: I will attempt most DIY in the house and have fitted my kitchen etc but didnt do the sink as wasnt too confident on doing it, but now we have fitted new cupboards and work top in utility room and wanted to try myself as the last person says he wont be able to fit me in b4 xmas so any tips/help/advice would be great. Is it a DIY job or something for the pros :dunno:

Hi, your sink should have a template included in the packaging to help you lay out the cut lines, place it on the top taking into consideration how it will sit on the base unit below (bowl not going to hit anything) and then it's simply a job of popping a decent size pilot hole inside your marking to let the jigsaw blade in. Cut away to the line (inside) and support what's going to drop out when you complete the cut, take it easy though you can always remove more stock later but you cant replace it! . Throw away what you have cut out of the top, you think you might, but you will never use it for anything!! Don't cut it on top of the base unit either, cut it on a bench or something....

I am a DIYer and I did it last year for ours and it was ok. Just take your time and double check your measurements and as Chris says check what is beneath.

I made a router table top out of a sink cutout from my Brother's kitchen. Big double drainer twin bowl sink - big coutout :) and free

After you've done the cutout, it is worth sealing the freshly cut edges with a couple of coats of varnish to prevent water getting in there and swelling your nice flat worktop.

We used PVA mixed with a bit of water when we did it around the cut edge and let it dry. Then we used sealant when we put the sink in.
