Chez - did you hear that story on the news? about there being an extra tax on hardscaping in gardens!!
Something to do with flooding and water not being able to soak into ground enough with all the patios and stuff being installed.

Why don't you ask a few of the blue rinse boys, most of em love pottering about in the garden.

My neighbour does all mine, plants loads of veg, fills the greenhouse with tomato's and is always giving me stuff that he has grown.

speaking of taxes, over here if you want to build an extension to your house and a tree stands in the way. you have to apply to the agricul;ture dept and after some months of beurocracy they charge you for planting 10 new trees for every annual ring there is on the tree that's to be cut Dunno
Being a sun scorched island ,the bigwigs at the top have devised this idea to make the island greener.

10 trees for each ring? Sounds a good idea actually, but is there enough spare land in Malta?? Shocked

Well not if all the cut tress were reported Smile because some crafty idividuals plan ahead and waterthe tree with insecticide and it whiters and dies.

In fact there is a highly organized dept for environmental infringments with periodic aerial photos taken of the whole country to spot illegal buildings an so on. but unless the culprit is caught red handed it is difficult to prove it in court.
