After a recent experience with the above, I thought I'd post comments. Firstly, anyone tempted to buy from them should do an online search. For some reason I didn't which was very foolish. I ordered a bath which I needed by a certain date and they said they could deliver it by that date. When I received an invoice for the wrong item, I did an online search, and horrified by what I saw, rang them to cancel as I did not believe they could deliver on time. This was about 1 hour after placing the order. The staff told me they were unable to cancel orders, only the manager could do that, and he would not speak to me. I sent emails requesting cancellation and they were ignored. I phoned at ~30 times, and got the same spiel from staff. Eventually, 4 days later, and after I sent a letter by recorded delivery requesting cancellation, I got to speak to the manager. He told me off, said I had to wait 30 days for a refund, said we'd already discussed it (we hadn't), and said there was no point responding to my emails. Needless to say I was not calm. I am still owed over £400 by these people. I have not received a receipt or a cancellation confirmation. Consumer Direct are aware of the situation, and have advised me.

In short, avoid JA Bathrooms like the plague.

I hope the above post is okay with the forum admin.

Did you pay by Barclaycard? If you did they will get the money back and no mistake

By Nationwide debit card. I am contacting Consumer Direct on monday for further advice. Not advising me of my right to cancel is a direct breaking of trading law, and I think it is a criminal offence, though he would probably claim to have sent an invoice with terms included, and 'it must have got lost in the post'. Impossible to disprove. He probably knows the law on trading inside out, and what to say and when.

In future do not communicate with them by telephone. Only communicate with them by email or recorded letter. I'm sure consumer direct will tell you the same thing.

I had problems with them a couple of years ago over a toilet system I ordered. Similar story, offer the world and deliver late (if at all).

Eventually the order did arrive, direct from the wholesaler whose delivery driver gleefully informed me that they will only supply JA Bathrooms if they pay cash up front - which tells you a lot about their trading relationships and probably all you need to know about the company.

Their customer service is abysmal, and i had a rather explosive discussion with one of their employees over the phone one afternoon who answered the phone "yeah, what the f**k do you want", without a clue who was on the other end of the phone. Yes, they are cheap, but use them at your own peril.

Was it a Visa Debit card? I was watching a programme recently, Rip Off Britain, who said that Visa offers similar protection to customers spending over £100 on their debit cards as their credit cards. Apparently it's on Visa that does this.

I reckon it will have been. I bank with Nationwide and my debit card is VISA.

I have had exactly the same problems with this company and am now involved in a VISA dispute for over £1000, for goods that they never delivered. I can't believe that they are allowed to continue trading and feel completely powerless to do anything about it.

I know my rights under the distance selling regulations and I cancelled an order with them after they refused to give me a delivery date. They had already taken the money and when I finally did manage to get through on the phone, refused to give a refund - or allow me to speak to their manager. I should have been able to simply cancel the order (for a stock item) and claim a refund. Now they are claiming that they need to charge a restocking fee of 15% for something that they said was in stock - but was obviously not.

I think that they just buy things direct from suppliers and this is why they can't give delivery dates or refunds. A total bunch of crooks. I could cry with frustration and only wish I had read this forum before I gave them my money...
