Hello all,
Have just removed an old sink, and want to blank off the old waste pipe.

The pipe is 40mm solvent weld, however I have no access to a good length of pipe, and where I can logically cut it off would leave the outside of a 90 deg bend attached.
Is there something I can insert INSIDE the pipe? It's going behind a wall, so it's not important what it looks like, but MUST not allow smells or water to exit

Thoughts please, as I'm lost!

Thanks

Phill

You can buy caps to go over the pipe or socket to go inside the fittings.

With carefull heat from a blowlamp, you can expand the plastic to fit.

Best to practice first though.

thanks Scruff,
that would be ideal, I'll have a look in the plumbing shop.
I can't find anything on-line which looks right.

Nick,
could you post the link again it seems to have broken. I've tried all the local suppliers, lots of blank looks and not much else.
Off to a big town during the week, but it would be good to be armed with a part number
thanks
phill

Well Plumb and Drain centre don't do any internal bungs, I tried flowplast tech support nothing suitable from them.
expanding foam is looking like a distinct possiblity at this stage.
My other thought-ette was to cut a flat disk from the same material and glue it in place with epoxy resin
the joint is "up hill", so it should be fine.
need to decide soon as plasterboard is waiting to go up.

The problem is that I need to block off 40mm solvent weld pipe and only have access to the inside of the pipe.
I went to B&Q last night and rummaged through their plumbing parts, and my best answer is a 32mm cap and lining.
the end which has the screw cap has a rubber washer and a slightly larger shoulder which is exactly the right side to fit into the 40mm pipe. I am also going to glue the large "nut" over the 40-32 joint, as there is not much plastic in contact.
I then add a 32mm pipe connector and finally a plug.
Its not ideal, I'm amazed that an internal plug is not available, but it should work. I'll let you know later in the week!

It worked!
Its not as nice as an internal bung, but it's going behind a wall. In a few years you can view it on rouges gallery!
