Hi All :)

I have been replacing some old radiators in my old house for newer ones, and up to now it has been pretty easy.

I have been using telescopic radiaor tails to fit the new sized radiators into the space between the existing valves/pipework etc.

But the latest radiator I have taken off has a different sizes connction to the valve - 22mm rather than the others that were 15mm ..

I have done some searching but not had any joy so far.. Is there a radiator tail that has 15mm at the readiator end, but 22mm at the valve end?

Or some other method is the standard way of dealing with this?

Cheers :)

Not ¾" it is a union type rad valve most these days are 15mm compression as you say but some are still union type.
Union type have a ground in mating surface to seal. https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Radiato ... m/p/421551
15mm compression type have a copper or brass olive to seal.https://www.screwfix.com/p/drayton-trv4 ... mm-x/89224
The ones shown happen to be thermostatic but common on manual ones too.
If you are changing the rad save the old tail piece to reuse.

Hmmm - Looks like I need the mother of all huge allen keys to get the old tails out.

But, even then, to use these would require them being fitted to a radiator 732mm wide - to connect up with existing pipework...

What I have been doing with the others is getting the standard contempoary sizes, like 700mm wide rad - and then using the variable tails to fit the gap.

Would be great if they did these tails with the old "Union" sized nut on the valve end ......

Or, is it a case of changing these valve to standard 15mm ones - but this means drainign the system?

You can try searching for radiator tail extenders.
Here is one example other lengths are available. https://www.castrads.com/accessories/ch ... gLCZvD_BwE
Looks pretty bulky but would get you out of trouble.
The tool you need is pretty cheap.

All you need is a standard 3/4" union extender (there not usually supplied with a nut), the unions are 3/4" (the nut that fits the valve)

eg. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Radiator-Val ... 3a85336caa
