pffft... what do you expect? Russia is probably one of the most corrupt countries around. Putin didn't bother to attend because he KNEW they were going to get it. Bribes? Russia? The words go together. What's worse is that the officials of Fifa are susceptible to bribes. The whole process should be one of (1) any country who wishes to apply gets to place their bid (2) only countries that meet/exceed certain basic minimum psecifications for infrastructure etc get through the first round (3) machine-random selection of winner (aka national lottery type).

Whenever MONEY is involved, bribery exists. Negate that influence and you get a 'proper' result.

And as for Qatar

What a shame! I wanted us to get it but reckon that various things would never have let us get it (see K E's comments above!).

Pud I agree, what with the World Cup, the Olympics and even the Royal wedding it would have helped the economy. ::b

Someone put on Twitter - England have gone out in the first round. Which is what they would have done if they'd been hosting it.

i cant believe its cost 460 million for a bid that got two votes! and only two people asked for the techincal booklet for the bid and they only asked for it because they wanted to compare it to there own.

9 of the fifa board have told the english fifa bloke that its because of the press, and suprises suprises it goes to the two country that control there press and there press wont ask any questions about fifa!

the sooner we walk away from fifa the better, that will make them sit up and take notice, fifa must be the only company that motto is fair play yet they wont let any one take a look a there books! and remember there head quaters are in Switzland! any one for a number account!

Gotta be honest, not at all surprised, as long as Sepp Blatter is running the show we had no chance.

Pudd, More job's would have been great, but we would not have got a look in

Olympics promised loads of work (how many Brits working on the Olympic site)

My son in law, got a job with a taxi firm after being out of work for about a year, since then he's paid all the debts off and got his own taxi subbing to the same firm. He hires the radio equipment from them but keeps the rest.

most jobs are temporary or part time
a large percentage will go overseas as the companys who bid the cheapest will have to source workers from overseas as they cant afford to comply with the minimum wage and comply with health and safety etc

some will be local people but again it will be people prepaired to work and "cut corners" to save money

other jobs will be stewards posts off perhaps 6 hrs in a day as a "job"

in other words some one should ask how many full time jobs off the equivillent off 40 hrs for at least from the start off the games excluding construction stages to 1 year beyond the main games excluding decomisioning jobs will be created
not very many i fear
