I have a fountain with the pump powered by mains.
There's also a cable for an underwater led.
I was told it's 12v. Does anyone know how I can be sure I am buying the right led or how to connect it?

Your post is vague to say the least.

More info / pictures please.

You say are you buying the right led, but what led are you buying?
You can get underwater use LED lights (I have some) but they usually come with a power supply / tell you what power supply is required.
You are also showing a plug, what is it for?

Sorry, let me try to explain better.
The fountain pump is powered by 220v 3pin plug.
This cable is attached to pump and that is the end of it to go up through fountain.
In a previous life there was an underwater led attached to this somehow.
I have no manual etc. I had hoped that this was a common enough cable that I could find out what else I needed.
Will try and get more pictures

Ok, but do you have the actual LED light?

The connector in your pic won't be for the lamp, more likely to connect to a transformer from the mains. Have you got pics of the pump and any associated wiring ??? Failing that a link to the actual product/s that you have bought ?

The pump he has is mains, he just wants a light that belongs / connects to that cable.

Above is the light you saw in the previous picture.

enmotion, I am now thinking that as you seem to only have a cable and no light, you would be better off if you got a brand new light and powersupply, that way it will work out of the box, and there are lots to choose from on ebay Click here

TIP: Don't buy one of them that has a short cable (you can see it in the picture) steer clear of a solar or battery operated light too.
