The Best Ways of Finding Insurance for Your Home |
Managing to find home insurance policy is not exactly difficult, is it? In fact, a lot of the time insurance will come looking for us! We’ll be asked about it at our bank, salespeople will call us at home and a constant barrage of introductory offers drop through our door; these days you can even buy your insurance along with your weekly grocery shopping!
But not all insurers will offer the same amount of protection. Some will have far more comprehensive policies others. And if you are taking out insurance on your property, then it is important to take your time and to do a little research...
Yes! But not just to find the lowest price...
All insurers will vary slightly (and a few will differ dramatically), so it is always worth doing your homework.
But do not make a decision that is simply based on price! You may find cheaper home insurance quotes; but at what other cost? By scrimping on price you may well end up with far less protection than you need. And if you ever do have to make a large claim, then you could be kicking yourself for being a miser!
Money is by no means the most important factor.
If you have car insurance, then why not see how much the same company will charge to protect your property? Not only will your car insurer want to keep hold of you, but they will also be eager for you to take out another policy with them. They may beat other companies in price simply because you are an existing customer!
Call it a ‘Loyalty Discount’ if you like...
Most house insurance is shaped around normal, run of the mill possessions. And this poses no problem for most people. Stereos, computers, furniture and fittings are all standard items and will be protected by any policy.
However, if you own particularly valuable goods, then these may not be covered... All insurers will have a payout limit for jewellery or other expensive items. If any of your possessions exceed this threshold, then you will probably need to take out additional cover.
Always ask your insurer if you have any doubts!
When you have settled on a particular insurer, ask them what payment options are available. For example, even if you have been given a quote over the phone, the exact same policy can be far less if you take it out online! This may sound a little strange, but it is just the way that some companies work.
Another way to save a few pounds is to pay for your policy outright rather than setting up a Direct Debit...
There are quite a few ways of saving money like this and you may even be able to use the same methods for some of your other purchases!
