It may not be admissible in court but at least you will know for sure. The cheapest of them all is the voice activated Tape recorder, these are fantastic and I can vouch for their effectiveness as I once caught out a ex-girlfriend that I suspected was cheating!

Is it immoral to record someone without their knowledge?

Not in my mind! It is far more immoral to cheat in the first place and if you do have your suspicions and they prove unfounded then you will feel far better for being proven wrong.

A simple voice activated tape recorder like the one above can be purchased from any high street retailer for less than £25.00. Versions that accept Micro tape are also available. I once screwed one of these to the underside of a wooden coffee table and left it switched onto "voice activated record", It was the best £25.00 I had ever spent as my Girlfriend of 2 years decided to call her other boyfriend on the Digitally enhanced cordless phone, I heard the entire conversation the next day! You are of course limited by the length of the tape as most audio cassettes are only a hour or so long. Professional tape recorders can record 12 hours but are very expensive. A better option would probably be a digital voice recorder like the one below which can record a massive 45 hours!

You must be careful where you place the recorder as if it is found you will be in very deep trouble and also be aware that when it is switched to "voice activated record" it still uses battery power!

An even better way is to tap the phone line, this again is done with the voice activated tape recorder but a special lead is needed which plugs into the phone socket and into the Microphone socket on the tape recorder, these work with amazing clarity but be aware that if you have broadband it will be picked up on the tape and also a dial up internet connection, so only use this if you are sure that no one will be using the internet!

A lead like the one above can be purchased for less than £15.00 and will enable any voice activated tape recorder to be used as a telecorder!
