brickwork |
Bricks are available in many different types, although most bricks are standard sizes the appearance of bricks can vary dramatically. Damaged bricks can be very difficult to match, if you house was built a hundred years ago or more it is unlikely that you will be able to go to your local builders merchants and pick up a matching or even similar looking brick.
As well as impact damage, bricks can be damaged my absorbing water, the water freezes causing the water to expand and the brick is damaged, often the brick face will fall off or the brick will crumble, this damage is known as spalling. Engineering bricks do not normally suffer from weather damage as they do not absorb water.
The only real remedy is to cut out and replace the brick, although you can buy a "slip" which is a small section of a brick, these are normally used to clad internal plaster walls to give an impression of exposed bricks.
